COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER – Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects
Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects (ICCE) is looking for a dynamic person to lead communications and marketing for the Centre. This is a part-time position with the potential to move into full-time work.
The Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects (ICCE) is a newly incorporated indigenous lead, non-political, not-for- profit association that supports communities undertaking cumulative effects work. The primary objective of ICCE is to help build and enhance the technical and scientific capacity of Indigenous communities to address cumulative effects, based on the values of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada. ICCE’s mission is to create networks and develop and share knowledge to empower community-based approaches to culturally relevant cumulative effects assessment, monitoring and management to support Indigenous well-being and decision-making.
ICCE is a network for Indigenous communities to access information, resources, and best practices about cumulative effects. The Communication Officer will be an essential part of fulfilling the mission of ICCE.
Communication Goals of the Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects are:
Increase the awareness of ICCE in indigenous communities and with potential partners.
Develop implement and maintain an integrated marketing, public relations, media relations and communication strategy to facilitate and enhance ICCE’s ability to build awareness of ICCE’s support for indigenous communities for cumulative effects issues.
Maintain a current and UpToDate website.
Working with the ICCE TEAM
Collaborate with the Executive Director and ICCE Team to define communication objectives.
Lead marketing and communications to support ICCE’s communication strategy.
Track the success and ROI of marketing and communications programs through various channels and provide regular reporting to the ED.
Content Creation and Distribution
Oversee, create, and distribute communications materials for the implementation of a communication and marketing plan:
Craft messaging, prepare presentations, and create content on Indigenous cumulative effects issues for website.
Define and create communications tools (e.g., newsletter, blogs, pre-recorded
Webinars, etc.) to improve the website as a resource for indigenous communities. Develop and maintain a communication calendar.
Monitor and contribute to social media groups and professional platforms linked to indigenous communities and cumulative effects.
Identify channels to target, and maintain ICCE’s network as well as other audiences, including reporting on the network and audience.
Integrate communication into a web development plan that will increase the use of the website as a central resource for indigenous communities.
Website expansion and maintenance.
A post-secondary degree or diploma with a focus in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
Strong information management and computer literacy including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, cloud services, social media platforms, and an understanding of web platforms.
3-5 years of related experience, preferably with indigenous organizations/audiences (public relations, marketing, communications) – experience in the field of environment, cumulative effects or a related field would be an asset.
Ability to express views and ideas effectively both written and orally.
Ability to exercise initiative, leadership, and creativity in the role.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with deadlines while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Needs to be able to work remotely.
Fluency in both English and French, as well as fluency/familiarity with Indigenous languages, is considered a strong asset.
Experience with Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Social Media, and SalesForce an asset.
Experience with web development and design, as well as an intermediate level familiarity with WordPress an asset.
