The Gold Standard is one of the most widely respected carbon standards available on the market, with one of the most rigorous certification standards available for carbon offset projects. This ensures that they deliver genuine emission reductions and long-term sustainable development through linking to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Upon purchase, you will be issued with a certificate with the amount of tonnes of carbon credits and their serial numbers which may be verified on the from the Gold Standard Registry at https://registry.goldstandard.org/

DESCRIPTION
The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor is a native reforestation project located in Southwest Australia – a global biodiversity hotspot. The project is established on degraded, semi-arid agricultural land that no longer supports viable farming practices. It removes carbon from the atmosphere and recreates a healthy and functioning landscape, restored after decades of habitat loss and soil degradation. Planting native tree and shrub species indigenous to the region provides essential habitat and connectivity for birds and animals to transition through the landscape. The project also delivers measurable environmental, social, economic and heritage benefits to the community, including local Indigenous inclusion and employment and support of over 80 local businesses. The reforestation is protected for 100 years by Carbon Right and Carbon Covenants registered on land titles. (Previously named “Auscarbon Biodiversity Project”)

SITUATION
These types of projects combine both reforestation and afforestation activities with biodiversity protection and ecosystem regeneration, ultimately transforming lands into close-to-nature forests that sequester large amounts of carbon. Forests also offer a natural habitat for native wildlife, enrich the soil, save and filter water and help mitigate the greenhouse effect by acting as a carbon sink.
SOLUTION
Climate Reforestation projects can lack investment due to marginal, hard-to-reach locations. The project can boost local small economies by creating local employment during both the construction and operational phases, stimulating climate skills technology in developing countries
IMPACT
Projects aim to generate a range of significant environmental and socio-economic benefits. By mixing afforestation and reforestation activities, these projects conserve remaining forests and promotes ecosystem interconnectivity by establishing ecological corridors. This improves biodiversity, and protects natural resources, with trees shielding the soil from erosion to prevent flooding and optimise water quality.
OUTCOME
Income from secure job opportunities with legal protections for workers helps alleviate local poverty, with leadership and development programs also offered to employees. The project educates the community on climate change and the importance of sustainability activities.
Verification
The Gold Standard Registry issues carbon credits, each is equivalent to one tonne of CO2e. It is the central repository for all information and documentation relating to Gold Standard projects and units. The Registry also ensures the uniqueness of projects and credits in the system. Projects are subject to a rigorous verification process where transparency underpins the positive outcomes of the carbon projects it certifies.
