Transport for London (TfL) has published its first-ever Corporate Environment Plan.
As London’s public transport provider and one of the largest landowners in the capital, TfL has reaffirmed its commitment to a green recovery from the pandemic.
The Corporate Environment Plan works alongside the Sustainability Report and works around five key themes:
- Climate emergency – reducing carbon emissions from TfL’s activities
- Air quality – reducing pollution from operations
- Sustainable resources – reducing waste and supporting a circular economy
- Green infrastructure – protect and enhance green infrastructure, including biodiversity, habitats and ecosystem services on the TfL land
- Best environmental practices – delivering activities and projects responsibly
The report aims to complement the governments Net-Zero Strategy, whilst also creating employment opportunities to help level up the national economy.
As part of the plan, TfL will promote active travel, they have published a dedicated Cycling action plan, which sets out how the Mayor and TfL will promote safe and active travel across the city to meet the 2041 target.
TfL also plan to support the transition to electric vehicles by supporting the delivery of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across
London by working with boroughs and the Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles.
Lilli Matson, TfL’s chief safety, health and environment officer, said: ‘We are proud to publish our first-ever Sustainability Report and Corporate Environment Plan, which clearly lay out our ambitions to decarbonise transport by 2030 and support a green recovery and better future for the capital. We must be economically, environmentally and socially sustainable to address today’s challenges – from the impact of the pandemic to the climate crisis – and be on a strong footing for the future.
